Kinesiology 2241A/B Lecture 9: Lec. 9 Angular Kinetics
Document Summary
The force causing centripetal acceleration is called centripetal force (center seeking) When you apply a force, you will see net change in velocity. Acceleration, mass, and therefore a force involved. As soon as you eliminate acceleration/force, it will continue along a straight path. Stays on circular path because it is tethered to an axis. Center fleeing force (trying to break it away from the curved path) Is equal and opposite to centripetal (if object stays on circular path) Has the same magnitude and dimensions but in opposite direction. Force that the rotating body exerts along the radius on the central axis. Drag is occurring because you are cutting through a medium, and the air pressing against the bobsled is slowing you down. Centrifugal- wants to break the athletes on the turn straight into the track. Centripetal- trying to draw you into the center.
