Kinesiology 2241A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 26: Viscosity, The Fluid, Lift Coefficient
Document Summary
As we covered in last lecture, most of the activities we do are done surrounded by air. The activities that aren"t done in the air are done in the water. Both air and water are fluids water is denser than air. Whenever we move through a fluid, the fluid applies a drag force that slows our motion down. In the real world, we throw projectiles through air. Air is a fluid and therefore imparts a drag force to the projectile related to the speed squared. Cdrag the drag coefficient of the projectile (smaller with streamlining) The velocity that we are talking about in the drag force equation is the relative velocity between the fluid and the object. If the fluid is moving to the side (i. e. a sidewind) as well as in a headwind or tailwind, then there is a lateral component to the fluid velocity that the object feels".
