Avoiding drag is what keeps these massive structures in he air. Greater lift coefficient = greater lift. (lift coefficient = wing shape, etc. ) For every 1 unit of velocity, force of lift foes up expontntially. Spinning object creates differences in fluid velocity and pressures over and under an object. (how fast the ball is moving on top and bottom). This air is acting on the ball to bring it up or down.
