Document Summary

Injury classification: used to be called acute or chronic, confusing because all injuries are technically acute something initiates them. What initiated them (mechanism of injury) and how quickly: at some point if injuries don"t heal they are termed chronic. Traumatic (acute) occur suddenly and have a clearly defined cause or onset: occur when tissue loading is sufficient to cause sudden irreversible deformation of the tissue, usually in high speed sports with/without high energy contact. Originate outside the anatomical limits of a part. Training, fit, bad shoes, increased duration of training, not enough rest, field conditions. Belonging to or lying within a given part. Anatomy, physiology, tight hamstrings, flat feet, knee malalignment. Muscle characteristics: contractile tissue with central function to generate power, well vascularized: Isometric muscle contraction in which length of muscle stays constant. Moderate force: concentric muscle shortens while contracting against resistance. Movement about joint: eccentric muscle lengthens while contracting against resistance. Maximal force, increased force with increased velocity.
