Document Summary

Rosie maclennan - olympic champion 2012 and 2016. If an eccentric contraction is followed by a concentric contraction there will be a greater force generated during the concentric - jumping. If you"re running down the stairs quickly (eccentric)- you can generate tremendous forces. In sport, if you"re pushing someone forward you can generate but if you"re being pushed backwards you"re way stronger (eccentric) Eccentric is stronger then concentric regardless of muscle group. Motor neuron and all the fibers it innervates. Motor units are of difference sizes and allow graded contraction. Sizes differ due to fiber size and number. Eye uses very little force so motor units are super small (3,4,5 muscle fibers) Glutes use a lot of force so motor units are huge (thousands of fibers associated with one motor neuron) Different sizes allow us to move faster or stronger depending on the fiber size and number. Contraction speeds are a lot faster then relaxation.
