When plaque builds up it reduces the diameter of the arteries. This increases bp and requires an increase in sv to maintain cardiac output. This is an alternative to open heart surgery. Angioplasty has a much reduced recovery time compared to that of open heart surgery. At least part of a-vo2diff due to better blood flow distribution. Blood distribution is set up as parallel vascular beds. Allows you to close down blood flow in one area and open up vasculature in another area. Redistributing blood flow to what needs it during excercsie. At rest lots of blood to gi tract. As intensity increases we decrease blood here so that muscles can get most blood. When you constrict you pull the capillary away from the skin. When you dilate you allow it to radiate heat from the capillaries out through the skin and evaporating sweat.
