Kinesiology 2230A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Muscle Biopsy, Adipose Tissue, Glycogen
Document Summary
Last day: short, moderate, and long duration, as hydrogen ion increases, ph falls, active and passive recovery, over time, increase in ph, if we do activity then the slope of the lactate increase is faster. As intensity increases, we will go from recruiting slow twitch to fast twitch fibers with oxidative capacity. Even higher intensities, we will use fast twitch glycolytic fibers being recruited the most. As the intensity of the exercise increases, we recruit more of the fast twitch fibers. In about an hour of exercise, we begin to work harder. Intermittent exercise, we will see the decrease in glycogen levels. Time to exhaustion on the y-axis: more carbs more time to exhaustion, this is not only 3 hour workouts, it is all energy systems. This is a high carb diet: those on a low carb diet, there is a bigger decrease from the oringal glycogen content level.
