Kinesiology 2222A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Common Peroneal Nerve, Plantar Fascia, Obturator Nerve
Document Summary
Muscles of the pelvic girdle and lower limbs. Identify muscular compartments: pelvic girdle, thigh (3 compartments, lower leg (3 compartments) 4 muscle groups, split one up into 2. Lumbar plexus- spinal roots out of lumbar region. Femoral nerve and obturator nerve come from here o: gluteals, sciatic, common fibular, tibial nerves come from here o. Sciatic nerve- thick, looks like an extension cord. Common function across compartment flexes the hip. Combination of 2 muscles that come together psoas major and minor comes together. 2 origins: o: psoas major/minor- transverse processes of lumbar vertebrae, o: iliacus- iliac crest. Runs down inferiorly and join up with iliacus. I: lesser trochanter of femur, crosses hip joint. Most powerful hip flexor in the body. Full sit up dangerous- in first 15 degrees off the floor you rely on iliopsoas muscles to lift you off the groundo this muscle attaches to lumbar vertebrae: end of sit-up- rely on abs o.
