Document Summary

Functional classification: synarthroses- immovable axial, amphiarthoses- slightly moveable -axial, diarthroses- freely moveable appendicular. Tight , no joint cavity, no hyaline (might be some on surface where bones meet) Skull, interosseous membranes, teeth o o o: ex. ligament, not hyaline keeping bones together, fibrous ligament does, compared to cartilaginous joint o, articulation bones are united with cartilage, not very moveable o. Joint cavity- capsule around joint, creates closed space underneath capsule. Capacity to hold fluid without leaking out (synovial fluid)- allows bones to guide across one another and move freely without generating friction. Growth plate is hyaline cartilage until you stop growing, head of femur is separate from shaft. Nerves and vessels: nerves/vessels surround capsule o, vessels in synovial membrane allow fluid production- weeping lubrication. Shifting between the synovial fluid working as a lubricant then a nourishing agent. How: at rest- knee joint is relaxed, open (little pressure), hyaline cartilage/intra capsule ligaments, discs soak up synovial fluid, nourished.
