Determines shade of colour of cells that dominate this area afords uv protecion. Kerainocyte isn"t able to take in melanin: merkel cell, sensory nerve tacile simulaion, langerhans cell, macrophages that"s part of immune system, situated higher. 5 layers: basale (stratum aka layer, lower level, a lot of acivity occurs here, many melanocytes located here, merkel cells, furthest from exposure all acivity occurs here, spinosum. Dermis in animals used as leather; place piercings and earrings in this layer very strong; made mostly of connecive issue; lots of collagen ibers.
