Kinesiology 2222A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Facial Nerve, Quadriceps Femoris Muscle, Trapezius Muscle
Document Summary
Muscles & nerves of the head, neck & trunk. Origin vs. insertion: origin is usually proximal, usually remains fixed during contraction, ex. Insertion is usually distal origin stays still: usually moves towards origin. Types of contraction: concentric, muscle shortens, ex. Isometric: muscle length remains the same, biggest cause of hypertrophy; the exercises that actually cause bulk -> can generate more force = more muscle tearing, tension being produced. Functions of muscles: prime mover/agonist, main muscle responsible for producing movement, synergist, assists agonist in producing movement, antagonist, opposes action of agonist i. e. relaxation during contraction. Massester (superficial: muscle fibers run vertical -> when they shorten it brings your mouth up (closing mouth) I: angle of mandible: o: zygomatic arch, ax: elevates mandible. Fan shape orientation -> has large attachment -> can produce a bunch of force (very powerful muscle) I: coronoid process of mandible: o: temporal fossa, ax: elevates mandible.
