Kinesiology 2222A/B Lecture 8: Lecture 8- Thoracic, Lumbar, and Sacral Vertebrae
Document Summary
Downward swing of spinous process. it moves downwards. Lamina: left and right creating part of vertebral arch. Pedicles: one on each side of body. make up rest of arch. These 2 arches make up the vertebral foramen. Circular vertebral foramen where spinal cord is situated. Cant tell which way spinous process is facing. Superior articular facet faces posteriorly and inferior articular facet faces anteriorly. Challenging to look at ribs because 1 rib can articulate with multiple vertebrae. This level of vertebrae attach to ribs. Attach to the facets on the bodies of the vertebrae: demifacets or superior/inferior costal facet: half facets, costal=rib, can see these small facets posteriorly and inferiorly, points of articulations, rib facet or transverse costal facet. Majority of ribs have multiple vertebrae but not all do. Rib #9-rib #2 has multiple vertebrae. with superior and inferior demifacets. Rib #1 (t1) only has one as well. Thicker because they bear much more weight than thoracic and cervical.
