Kinesiology 2222A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Standard Anatomical Position, Sagittal Plane, Transverse Plane
Document Summary
Explain the standard anatomical position and planes. Define the anatomical terms of position, relation, direction, and movement. Differentiate the 3 major divisions of anatomy. What all terminology is in reference to: standing erect, palms and feet face forward. Right and left are in reference to the person"s body opposite to our view. Other positions: supine: lying down and facing up with palms facing down, prone: lying down and palms facing up, head tilted to side. Midsagittal plane: divides the body into equal left and right halves. Sagittal plane: can divide body into any proportion of right and left doesn"t have to be in half. Frontal/coronal (crown) plane: divides the body into front and back doesn"t have to be in half. Transverse plane: divides the body into top and body doesn"t have to be in half. Proximal: closer to trunk reference limbs elbow is proximal to fingers. Distal: further from trunk reference limbs fingers are distal to elbow.
