**note: more questions on the heart will be on the final since it isn"t tested on the bell-ringer 2016. The heart is not symmetrical, positioned on an oblique angle. Not located in the center of the thoracic cage, more anterior just behind the sternum. Very close to the outer wall of the rib cage. Function = pumps blood to the different regions of the body. Must be a complete circuit to pump blood to regions of the body. Maintains a proper gas exchange to dump off co2 and pick up o2, maintains the balance of co2 and o2 for organs to complete basal function. Rule blood flowing away from the heart = artery away=artery . Rule2 blood flowing towards the heart = vein in=vein . Red ventricle pumps out to a major artery. Right side of the heart for deoxygenated heart moves away and is an artery even though it is blue in the diagram.
