Kinesiology 2222A/B Lecture 6: Muscles of the Upper Arm
Document Summary
Muscles that move the limb, as well as muscles that move the girdles. Separated into compartments: pectoral / shoulder girdle, arm / brachium region, forearm / antebrachium (elbow to wrist) In certain regions off of spinal cord, there are spinal nerves that come together and form webs. Off of the webs arise the nerves we study in this course comes off of a plexus. Cervical plexus (phrenic nerve comes from here) Brachial plexus main focus in class: nerves rise off the plexus to innervate the muscles we talk about. Separated into two groups: muscles that move the shoulder girdle(scapula&clavicle) Innervation: pectoral nerve: medial & lateral pectoral nerve. Insertion: along rib cage, goes underneath scapula inserting onto medial border of scapula (blue in diagram) Keeps scapula tight to the back of rib cage: contracting muscle = pulls medial border of scapula to the back of rib cage, mechanism to protect shoulder girdle when pushing objects.
