Document Summary

Muscles in the same compartment of the upper limb typically perform the same/similar function i. Compartments: pectoral or shoulder" girdle, arm (elbow to shoulder) or brachium", forearm (elbow to wrist) or antebrachium". Nerve plexus = spinal nerves that come off certain regions of the spinal cord and form webs (off these webs arise the nerves that we study in this course) ie the sciatic nerve. Plexuses of the body: cervical plexus - web of nerves in the cervical spinal region ie phrenic nerve, brachial plexus web of nerves/starting point for upper limb innervation. Will revisit later: lumbar plexus contains femoral nerve, sciatic plexus contains sciatic nerve. Provides multiple innervation paths to allow constant muscular innervation ie spinal cord damaged muscles such as the diaphragm can still function via innervation from another plexus branch. Muscles of the shoulder: function to move the scapula and clavicle, contains anterior and posterior muscles.
