Kinesiology 2222A/B Lecture 1: Skeletal Notes
Document Summary
Just over 600 muscles in the human body. We are able to select the # of fibers innervated to control contraction. Unique feature = muscles attach to fascia as well as soft tissue, skin and bone. Epicranius (tendenous fascia: embedded in the center of a large muscle with two bellies, frontalis (occipitofrontalis)= anterior belly, responsible for raising eyebrow, occipitalis (occipitofrontalis) = posterior belly, responsible for returning eyebrow back to resting position. Orbicularis oculi: located around the eye, function contraction causes eye to close (blinking muscle) Zygomaticus (major & minor: grouped together b/c they run parallel to each other and are overall very similar, origin zygomatic process, insertion corner of mouth, function contraction draws corners of mouth up (smiling muscles) Oricularis oris: located around the mouth, function contraction causes pursing of lips (kissing muscle) Risorius: attaches to soft tissue and skin near corner of mouth, function contraction draws corner of mouth out (grimacing muscle)
