Kinesiology 2000A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Stroke Volume, Metabolic Waste, Breathing
Document Summary
When a person engages in a sustained bout of pa, nearly all of the systems and organs come into play to support the activity. Have to respond and adapt to maintain homeostasis. Gives our body structure and allows us to move. Cardiac muscle in the heart is special in that it can contract on its own without an external stimulus. Smooth muscle is involuntary, ex. line digestive tract. Metabolic processes are responsible for generating atp, the body"s energy source for all muscle action. Atp is generated by 3 basic energy systems: 2) glycolytic system: <2 min: oxidative system. The system in the time zone of exercise will provide most of the energy, but all will be providing energy. Example one lift will get most of its energy from the atp-pcr system. Oxidative system = krebs cycle, slow production of atp but can produce atp for a long duration.
