Procedure originated by kelly to understand the individual ways that people construe their life experiences. A person uses an individualized set of elements on a series of personal constructs. Personal constructs a lens - a way of thinking about these elements. Describe things that are alike and different than other things. We are looking for her individualized view of the world - so we must allow her some flexibility in who she nominates to be in the grid. We ask her to use three elements to decide groups - using the triadic method. Finding one side of the construct that shows how two things are similar & how they are different than others. These constructs are more tailored to her view. City block distance a measure of how similar two elements are. The smaller the distance, the more alike the elements are. It is equal to the sum of the absolute difference in ratings.
