Document Summary

Lecture 15 male reproductive system part i testes & accessory organs. Testes: vas deferens, seminal vesicle, prostate, urethra, penis. Urethra occurs in the prostate gland: produces sperm regularly, sperm start out immature; not fully developed, not much motility, stays within testes and matures, epididymis, between testes and vas deferens. Descent by gubernaculum: gubernaculum, pulls testes down from abdominal cavity in which they initially develop. Resides in scrotum: scrotum, protective layers outside the testes, derived from abdomen, as testes are pulled down, they pull layers along with them. They are essentially out-pouching"s of the abdominal cavity. Testis are properly functional at 2-3 degrees below body temperature. Testis need to be outside of body in order to produce viable sperm: need full descent. Cryptorchidism: conduct tests to make sure testis are fully descended, they can sometimes get stuck along pathway, almost making it to scrotum.
