In ontario, the standard statue of limitations is 2 years, but it only begins once the plaintiff is aware of the wrong. Case: at the age of 25, in counseling she realized that being raped by her father caused her problems, but she wasn"t psychologically aware until she was 28 when the statue of limitations begins to run. Carter case (criminal code for physician-assisted suicide) does not give you the right to physician assisted suicide, it just prevents the government from criminalizing the behaviour. The issue of consent arises in numerous treatment, counseling and care situations and the legal principles vary accordingly. The principles of consent and capacity focus on autonomy. Part 1: common law of principles of consent (a) general principles. Unless a statute provides otherwise, the patient"s consent is needed to undertake any treatment, counselling or care. The consent should cover not only proposed treatment, but all info about treatment.
