Community Food Security

• Food security exists when all people have physical and economic access to safe,
sufficient and nutritious food to meet their dietary needs and food preferences
for an active and healthy life
• A situation in which all community residents obtain a safe, culturally acceptable,
nutritionally adequate diet through a sustainable food system that maximizes
self-reliance and social justice
o Culturally accessible and nutritionally sufficient diets are important
• A comprehensive approach that integrates all components of the food system,
from producers to consumers. It emphasizes the health of both the environment
and local economies and promotes regional food self-reliance.

insecurity
