A person understands the world using personal constructs. Unique to each individual and helps to understand what happened in the past and anticipates what may happen in the future. Constructive alternativism position that all human constructs are flawed and are subject to replacement and revision. Individual way in which people think about and understand their life experiences. Consists of elements on a series of personal constructs. A measure of the similarity of two elements; smaller distance = elements are more alike. Elements could be objects, people, events, etc. Calculated by finding the sum of the absolute differences of ratings. Ex. dab = |5-2| + |1-4| + |1-4| + |5-1| = 13: assume that each element is a separate group.
