The lives of older people and changing social roles. Mismatch between the strengths and capacities of the increasing numbers of older people in the us and the inadequate social-role opportunities to utilize, reward, and sustain these strengths. Over just one century in the us some 28 years have been added to the average length of a person"s life: curious about how good these added years are, don"t know the answer to this. Know that the lives of older people can be improved through interventions based on scientific evidence and considered thought. To bring these interventions to life would mean redesigning the life course: changes to individual lives as well as environing social structures. Average life expectancy from birth could be increased from 75 to 85 if the risk factors for heart disease like high bp, smoking, and obesity were eliminated.
