Document Summary
Lecture 8 adolescence iii: the medicalization of adolescence. The emergence of the medicalization of adolescence in canada. Adolescence was seen as something that was uncertain and needed to be controlled. Seen as so different and troubling from their parent"s generation; difference is often constructed as something that is problematic. A critique is that adolescence has always been manipulated for the social gains of larger societies. Young people were seen in contradictory ways. Made sure that adolescents were controlled and were not too much of a problem. The idea of adolescence being a problem was a social construction. Wwi and wwii led to destabilization in the world which leads people to want to control things and bring things to an equilibrium which was done with adolescents.
