Male youth street culture: pavis and cunningham-burley (1999) Talked about knee-jerk reactions to widespread happenings within the communities in. Study was done within public housing in scotland and curfews were placed on individuals under the age of 16 due to the moral panic. Once the researchers looked deeper into the research, they found that there wasn"t much regarding potential of understanding the issues. Felt that the current body of literature only focused on high-risk behaviours from an individualistic platform. Didn"t consider social factors of the individuals. Wanted to move beyond just looking at risk-factors. Required a deeper approach w/ an ethnography to understand daily living. Analyzed the lives of the individual (i. e. parent"s jobs, history of the city, cultural aspects that are unique to the particular area) In order to gain a deeper understanding, you must join the community.
