30% of sexually active tends have had unprotected sex. 1 in 4 sexually active teenagers will contract one std. Many stds and hiv hare little symptoms or none initially. Misperception of teens and sex: everyone is doing it. 1800 teens survey-> boys are more pressured to have sex than girls. Assumptions are dangerous-> many thing they don"t have hiv/aids. Hiv positive and stds-> very little symptoms, cannot tell from the appearance that people are living with hiv. 40000 new cases of hiv are diagnosed every year in the us. Hiv suppresses ability to fight back other infections. Chlamydia-> most common sexually transmitted bacteria (preventable): curable with medication. Teenagers are less likely to use protection. Bacteria can be passed on through skin contact (oral sex); not just sex.
