Three components of skin: epidermis: wave like structure made up of epithelial cells. Merkel cells (sensory cells: attached to the epidermis. Langerhans cells (macrophages): scavenger cells romaine around to cleanse the cells. It is the furthest away from the rest of the environment. When the cells start to die they release a substance which create hydrophobic barriers. A tattoo would go to the reticular regions of the skin. The dermis is extremely strong because it contains many fibres. The skin is actually a mass of dead cells. Melanin: taken up by keratinocytes: eumelanin: yellow to red, pheomelanin: Vitiligo: condition where melanocytes stop producing melanin; usually in certain patches of skin. Hair colour depends on the type and quantity of melanin taken up. When we get nervous or hot our skin becomes flushed with blood which is simply hemoglobin dominating the surface of the skin.
