Document Summary
Lecture 3 bone and the axial skeleton. Tendons attach muscle to bone and ligaments attach bone to bone. Ligaments help to hold bones in place help stop joint from dislocating. Also store/release hormones ; we have the ability to change how much calcium we store and release. Most common place for hematopoietic tissue is your hip bone. Present in all bones along with spongy bone. An outer shell for all of your bones. Lamellae are strips of bone that are formed in a circular pattern and have an opening in the middle of the osteon (haversian canal) Running in the same direction allows for an increase in strength. It is lighter in comparison to cortical bone. Lamellae are stacked instead which allows for spaces in between the columns; which allow for bone marrow to be held. It makes the bone lighter which allows us to function easier. Articular cartilage also known as hyaline cartilage.
