Health Sciences 2300A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Rectus Femoris Muscle, Sartorius Muscle, Frontalis Muscle
Document Summary
We"ll start talking about function, in muscles we talk about what causes the function. Example: what muscle influenced that joint (usually multiple muscles across a joint) Muscles and their naming system seems to make sense, a lot of muscle names are based on their function, which will help you understand what the muscle is doing. -> therefore, the name of muscles can tell you a lot! The extensor digitorum longus = this muscle extends the fingers. Longus = because there are two muscles that do this, ones short, and ones longer. The short one we call the brevis (means abbreviate). -> learn body regions, they will help with muscle naming/function. Example: pectoralis major = largest muscle in the pectoral region. -> sometime muscles are named based on their attachment, this is also helpful. Example: biceps brachii, located in the brachial region, this muscle has two origins (two heads)
