Not involved in moving the jaw, important for speech. Tongue has to move around to allow entrance of food. Movement of the eye is a very complicated process, involved many muscles. Inferior rectus muscle, multiple directions (arrows), primary role: press the eye, secondary functions: adduct the eye, towards nose. Lots of functions, but some not primary functions. 6 muscles, action are not primary roles. Inferior rectus- underneath the eye, depress the eye: medial rectus- adduct the eye, bring towards midline, lateral rectus- abduct the eye. Pharyngeal constrictors and assisting muscles- constrict the muscles into the sockets and shortens the pharyngeal space. Made up of two layers- circular and longitudinal layers, longitudinal one in the inside, circular one are the constrictors.
