Boston is port city, merchants were hit by the duties. Boston is the coming together to form a political response. Boston radicals are coming together to hold the town meetings. Petitions which they send to the british parliament. No law of society can be binding on any individual without his consent . British are getting concerned that this could migrate to other colonies of the british empire. They have more at stake than the 13 colonies. Want to put an end to it. October 1768, british government sends over 4,000 british troops to boston (centre of radicalization) Boston had a population of 16, 000 people (4 soldiers per citizen) Problem: makes the troops stand out (british involvement is very in your face). Troops found nothing, there was no agitation or violence. Citizens of boston hated them and the troops were constantly harassed (juvenile) The harassment was taking place on march 5, snowballs were being thrown.
