Thursday october 26th the old south. The north is becoming industrialized and growing from immigration. The south is being settled referred to living in a very distinct world. Economic development cotton defies the economic wealth of this region, leads to a very strict class system. Largely rich or a very poor white, and then black slaves who have no wealth. Slavery touches and defines every aspect of the south. Slavery and race were used to stop a coming together or white slaves and blacks. At least you are not black and a slave. Feeds into the lack of immigration the south. The only exception are new orleans, louisiana, or parts of florida. You can"t get a job in the south, you can"t compete with slave owners. The south felt as if they were under attack. England, spanish, and france have outlawed slavery. Problem with tobacco is that is very tough on the soil, and is a very acidic plant.
