Pirates and piracy week 1, jan 11th 2017. Periods defined by major advancements, issues, or themes. Tendency to group spans of years in to a period a western/christian practice. Created by historians to have a better understanding of the past and to keep only relevant years together. Development shows a better emphasis oh humans having a hand in creating the past. Famous historical quote claims the concept of piracy is really no different then monarchs imposing their will of smaller nations and colonizes them except they have larger ships and more men. Modern piracy: illegally downloading/stealing other people"s usual media works and depriving them of their rightful sales. Us supreme court claimed modern piracy was being done by the many people trying to combat the japanese fishing boats trying to illegally capture whales. A canadian ship shot at a spanish ship then proceeded to overtake them, detain them, and kept them jailed for a limited amount of time.
