Plenty of situaions in human history where prospecive of invasion was iciious. Contrast 2 situaions: panic is real, but threat of invasion isn"t, threat of invasion is real, but panic doesn"t occur. Invaded 4 imes: 43ad roman invasion, 450-750 germanic invasion, 870s viking invasion. February 29, 2016: 1066 norman invasion. Britain"s defence has historically been water english channel: 20 mile wide strip of water, crossing body of water and landing on hosile coast is diicult (cid:1) 3 occasions in which threat of invasion was real, but had no widespread panic: 1588 spanish armada.
