Terrible prediction: we still tend to blame groups for arrival of disease. Good at curing disease but need to focus on preventing disease. Better informed, educated and access to hard science but we tend to panic (cid:498)it is time to close the book on infectious diseases, and declare war against pestilence won(cid:499) 2010 cholera hits haiti: blamed poor, indigenous people blamed the government for poisoning the water to, poor was blamed for spreading disease, peacekeepers brought cholera and spread it. Belief that epidemic is not a supernatural event. Believes the epidemic is brought by people try and kill the poor. Avian and swine flu: h5n1 avian (bird) flu. Currently part of a normal season flu but more lethal. Mad cow: bovine spongiform encephalopathy (bse) Can take months or years to take its course. High prediction rates of death for the disease. Elected officials are now the least trusted people. Either prove that the system works and public officials did something.
