The study of the history of sexuality start in the 1960s and early 1970s. Most important invention in history of the world in terms of womens" lives revolutionized. Birth control was meant for married women (not single because only married people were supposed to have sex) Part of the larger movement which was the second wave feminist movement. Women"s" movement of 1960 and 1970 (second wave womens movement) first wave was at beginning of 19th century about voting. Second wave was beyond the vote and about investigating why women were still suffering oppression and not seen as equal citizens. Women investigated the history of women did not find much information because historians were men and they wrote about other men. History of marginalized movement being studied gave rise to the study of sex + sexuality. Michel foucault: french philosopher that studied the history of sexuality and turned it into its own academic field.
