Due to globalization degree to which it"s necessary/beneficial. Almost impossible for unions to survive in today"s context. Ing landscape of work place for private unions to survive. Public sector workers only ones being effectively unionized. Quite a bit of antagonism directed towards them. Sunshine list created to sow discord between private sector unions and public sector unions. Demand for public sector unions to be paid less and taken down. First unions were groupings of people that were loose/tight designed to provide some form of protection of perks/privileges in their daily lives. Elitist affairs organized by people who possessed skills by people who had specific craft. Starting to feel threatened by machines and deskilling of labour. Loss of status (not deterioration of working status) Form of keeping certain privileges and certain people out. Slowly see these unions grow to be more organized around possession of skill organization across skill lines.
