Stagflation : economic standstill which typically leads people to turn against an other (usually a minority) New generation which, instead of turning against the other , turned against the ideals of their parents and the previous generations. Rock and roll came up, driven by the new generation and the emerging influence they have. Were extremely male-dominated, women were either not allowed to participate or held extremely minor roles. Led them into rallying for women"s rights as they began to accuse the student leaders as being hypocrites. Came out of the student protests which were male dominated. More access to contraceptives (birth control 1961), dual role of women in jobs (as mothers and workers) Women in italy were strongly encouraged to marry their rapists because then the rape would no longer count . One woman refused to comply and it led to her rapist actually being sent to jail.
