Nonage is the inability to use one"s own understanding without another"s guidance -immanuel kant. Reason and logic was being favoured over philosophy. Ppl learned that humans aren"t the center of the universe (geographically, astronomically) > went to war: found out things he was told/believed in as a child were not worth killing people over. Francis bacon, thomas hobbes, john locke, george berkeley. Kantian epistemology: all knowledge begins with (but does not end with) experience. Reason two: scientific revolution and the domination of mathematics. Hailey: predicted when comet comes back, 20 years after he died. Galileo: was ridiculed by the church because his astronomical theories undermined the scripture -> placed under house arrest. In past, church restrained knowledge -> much declined, still censorship but no universal censorship. Much more information compared to 100 years ago based on the century of discovery (zoology, human biology, societies->unaware of the christian revelation, they are aware of other religions but don"t believe it themselves)
