Tourism always existed but it used to only be for royal people. More like a group of rich people going to visit another group of rich people. Mass tourism started in the us speci cally atlantic city. Railways are key for the city"s development. Not every country is the same as usa/ other developed countries there are countries with institutional settings. Tourism depends on 5 factors, but conceptually, there is no general theory b/c tourism is individual & experience- based. Which is why most jounrals/ articles on tourism are case studies/ surveys. The 5 factors: social, technological, environmental, economic, political. Tourism in vegas started when gambling became legalized (in 1930s) Gone through several evolutions since then (improvements), constantly renewed itself. One thing that did not change is that all resorts in vegas still like to base around some sort of theme. Ex: caesars palace > roman theme; luxor > egyptian theme.
