Iss international space station: not the first space station soviets had very early space stations first. Increased practice of evas and other space procedures. Program flew between 1971-1986 (when it was replaced by mir) Due to the secrecy of the space race, there were two programs co-existing under the salyut name: military missions were carried out under ops while civilian missions were carried out under dos. All were still carried out under salyut titles. Stations were mostly launched on soviet proton rockets as the hlv n1 was not ready when the program started: proton family of rockets were essentially large icbms. Salyut 1 first space station: civilian launch, stayed in orbit for 175 days, april 1971-october 1971.
