Federal republic of germany (fdr =west germany) German democratic republic (gdr = east germany) Airplanes from west germany bring supplies to west berlin. Symoblism: separting the west from the east (capitalism vs. communism) There are holes on the wall, people can fit their face in the wall and peek the other side. More of a broken seam in the wall; guards can talk to each other through that broken seam.
