Document Summary

The conditions that sustain humanity are not natural. There is no such thing as human carrying capacity. The idea that humans must live within the natural environment limits of out planet. Ice age depended on technological strategies to sustain growing populations denies the realities of our history. We transform ecosystems in order to sustain ourselves. The social and technological systems that sustain us need improvement. Increasing land productivity using existing technologies can boost global supplies and even leave more land for nature. Instead of shrinking the already too big economy, we are expanding it. Can"t have infinite growth on a finite planet. We can"t bend the rules of physics to fit our needs. If we keep going, the world will stop working and break down. We will not react until the problems affects our economy. We don"t act until something occurs to us and affects us. Our current consumption level is too high.
