Culture as: high brow, elite, formal, british, to be culture used to be to be british. Dominant group gets to dictate what is the acceptable culture. Codes a set of rules or guidelines; Signed system is a code: organized understood way of thinking, linguistic codes (language), dress codes, etc. Different dress codes: use clothing to designate jobs. Food you eat at certain occasions: turkey at christmas is the norm. E. g. beauty: certain biological norm is what humans find beautiful: symmetry, sizes, height, how they dress beauty norms vary in society. Looked at how often in an hour couples would touch each other. How you are supposed to behave: example: in job interviews. Literally learn to read, interpret or de-code the arrangement in space of human activities & actions. Example: how you/ others behave in certain spaces. Have to know how to interpret space in order to survive. Totality of shared, learned (cid:498)way of life(cid:499); doing and thinking.
