It was first used to describe the jewish diaspora (displacement resulting from the holocaust for example). The term has now expanded to include any scattering of people across the globe. It now describes: immigrants, refugees, guest-workers, exile communities, other displaced groups . First-generation: immigrants who are new to a country. Second-generation: the children of first-generation immigrants; those born in the new country. (cid:2) Dispersed from an original centre to at least 2 peripheral places. Maintain a memory or vision about their original homeland. Believe they are not (and perhaps can never be) fully accepted by their host country.
