Early film might not talky but there are music playing in the background: orchestra or piano, ceremony, professional actor speak behind the screen, sound effect. The jazz singer, the sound comes from a disk. 1921-1931 total conversion to sound, studios agree to adopt the sound in the theater. The mics pick up the humming voice, the studio need to change their tuegsten lens, resulted in more lightsource, then actor is easier sweat. No mobile framing, no containing stable shot, long takes only in longshot so the actors action can be captured. Editing is enable at that time, couldn"t cross cut, don"t know how to deal with sound. Actors has to stay within the area of the mic, restricted with the film making. Singing in the rain, is set in the sound develop era. Not all originally dialogue is put into the subtitles.
