Detective fiction solving a mystery or crime; focus is on the process of solving the mystery rather than the criminal the how, logic. Detective is highly intelligent and uses logic/deduction to come to a conclusion that most people would miss. Not a definitive detective like sherlock holmes actively investigating the stone. A whodunit the reader is supposed to have a shot at solving; ie. we have all the information that the detective has. In hp, people suspect snape because he"s so sinister and evil in a true detective story, this would be too obvious and readers wouldn"t believe it. Quirrell was in leaky cauldron the day the stone was stolen. Quirrell got knocked over at the quidditch match. Snape was talking to someone (quirrell) beside the forbidden forrest. He happens to be at gringotts the day stone was taken. Hermione is more the magnifying glass detective. Doesn"t look at harry on his cursed broom, looks at the crowd.
