Monday january 13th 2014 : introduction to course. Generates productive confusion: reality we say fantasy. Primary world : world we live in vs. Post modernism : time after second world war: where people start to think about what literature is about, 1960"s where realism starts to run out. Profoundly appealing about fantasy allows people to be heroes. Ever expanding world they live in: enters an all encompassing immersive universe, has multiple real world details in the fantasy world. Based upon a quest or an adventure. Large range of races & stereotyped characters: princess + warrior ect. Impending sense of doom: heroes not a hero if he doesn"t have to deal with evil. Myths , legends , folk tales: the other of fantasy literature. Fantasy cannot be repressed: fantasy always comes back and explodes into reality. There is no seperation between the real and fantastic world , all the fantasy you read is commenting on this world.
