Distinction between terror and horror terror = straightforward fear. Horror: narratives which induce a particular kind of fear, usually associated with the supernatural/science ctional. E. g. , a lm about a killer stalking woman is classi ed as a suspense thriller . Creed focuses on this element of disgust. Psycho horror involves gures that can be identi ed as neither __ nor __ (zombies = neither dead nor alive; neither man nor woman, etc. ) shockingly outside the available rational qualities tends to be classi ed as horror. Escapism they get you away from your boring, tedious life displaces your sene of failure/boredom. Curiosity want to know the truth (human attitude) Ambiguous monster; hints of what it looks like most satisfying moment is when monster is displayed for the rst time. Noel carroll very clean theory, but does not explain the gore. Greek tragedy --> there is very little suspense/doubt; therefore, no arousal. Aristotle: why do we watch tragedy? (because of catharsis)
